I have learned several key aspects to improve my educational practices through the feedback and data driven coaching cycles that I have received over the last year. One of the major takeaways was that data can improve targeted interventions to improve student performance across the curriculum. It helped me to reflect on my practices as a history teacher and learn to respond in the moment to what is happening in the classroom. This coaching cycle also allowed me the opportunity to interact with the student and gauge formatively where they are individually in the specific skills that are being targeted that class.
Although I was hesitant at first to use data in my classroom, through the coaching and constructive feedback model, it allowed for a space for me to come out of my comfort zone. I was able to reflect on where my students needed to grow and where, I, as a teacher could improve to ensure that as many students as possible had equitable access to the content. The most important thing that I took away was that data provides a lens into what the student needs to be successful.

As a second year teacher, feedback in any form can feel nerve wracking, because you invest so much time and effort into trying to get everything ‘perfect’ the first time.
